We decided to head to Glenrose, TX first. Marc and I had been there when we were dating, but hadn't been back in years - we thought Madden would enjoy a trip to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
We arrived around lunchtime and found this quaint little restaurant - The Storiebook Cafe. Madden and I loved it - and Marc tolerated it! Ha! Delicious salads, sandwiches, fresh lemonade, homemade pies - wonderful! The neatest part was the wall to wall bookshelves filled with books - and the special toy/book room for the kids. Madden was able to bring a toy to the table and play while we waited for our lunch - perfect!
After lunch, we headed to Fossil Rim. Here is a video link before we started: https://vimeo.com/45585659
We got our map, bag of food and were off!
Madden thought it was SUPER cool. It's like a zoo, but you don't get out of your car! :)
We saw A LOT of deer - and I was a little frustrated. You can see deer anywhere.....but eventually we saw some REAL animals. And, Madden didn't care what it was! He loved feeding the animals.
He would call from the window to the animals "come here cutie, cutie, cutie!" Hilarious. He started that all on his own!
Ostriches - birds are kind of gross! This one poked it's head in our car right after I took its picture - freaked us all out!
Love this picture! Wish our mirror wasn't so dirty...
Showing me the food we fed to the animals....
About halfway through, they have an area that you can get out and walk around - thank goodness! We played in the store, got a snack and checked out the children's petting area.
We were cracking up in the children's petting area. We walked in and Madden was completely disgusted with the smell. He walked around with his hand over his nose the whole time. ZERO interest in petting the animals - just wanted out of there!
Of course, he HAD to get a toy. Dad sent us back in the shop with $20 and said ONE TOY. Well, Madden had to have a mama giraffe and a baby one. We're talking a lot about mamas and babies these days. So, meet Jerry and Jimmy - the giraffes! Ha!
We got back in the car - and the giraffes were next! So pretty!
We stuck our heads out of the sunroof and the giraffe would stick its head in and eat out of our hand. I don't have any good pictures - Marc was trying to drive and I was trying to make sure our hands didn't get bitten off! :)
We saw several ram along the journey - and Madden would NOT feed them. He said they looked mean!
At the end of the tour, they have these dinosaurs. We had a little lesson on dinosaurs and how they are extinct and what extinct means and a million other questions!
Our time at Fossil Rim was really FUN! We were there about 3 hours and Madden thoroughly enjoyed it.
After we left there, we headed downtown to get some pie. We had heard about this shop called Pie Peddlers and it did not disappoint! I had a lemon meranguine pie and Marc had chocolate. They only sell pies and are open all day all week. On Saturdays, they make about 10 of each of their 10 flavors. They only had 6 pies left when we arrived!
We left Glenrose just as a big rainstorm came (yea!) and cooled things down. We headed to downtown Ft. Worth for Part 2 of our adventure! We checked into the Worthington Hotel. Madden LOVES staying in hotels (and so do his mom and dad) and the Worthington is one of our favorites - plus, dad had enough points to get us a free night!
We had a great view of Sundance Square - and as you can see Madden, Jimmy and Jerry all enjoyed checking out the action! :)
We ate dinner, walked around the square, went to Barnes and Noble, ordered room service and thoroughly enjoyed a good night sleep!
Two quick stories to remember:
1. We went to Barnes and Noble and looked at books. Madden enjoyed reading a few, but never asked for one....so we left and continued walking. Once we were about 50 feet from our hotel, Madden had a complete meltdown because he wanted a book. We had some 'life lessons' about how you don't always get what you want, etc. etc.....and he calmed down about an hour later! Seriously.... The next morning, the first thing he was asking for was the book. We did make a stop back at B&N to get it - if he's still thinking about it the next morning, I guess he really does want/need it! :)
2. Before we left for our adventure, Madden was really concerned about where the baby was going to sleep. I told him that the baby is in my tummy and it will sleep with me. He was really concerned that there wasn't going to be enough room for HIM in the bed if the baby was there too. It was our first bit of jealously..... :) Once we got to the hotel, there was a bench and he told me the baby could sleep over there. Hmmm....
Sweet memories with just the three of us.....
