Another Zoo Trip

At our last trip to the Dallas Zoo, we were talked into a Year Membership. We thought it would be a good deal and that we would come a lot. Well, our membership is up in June.....so we will probably be coming every other weekend this Spring to get our money's worth! ha!

The weather has been beautiful, so we ventured out this past Saturday....and brought Honey with us too.

Last time, we visited the new Serengeti part - so this time, I thought we would go over to the Children's Zoo part. Off we went....stopping at any animal statue to get our picture made. Madden was obsessed with them. Liked the statues a lot more than the real animals.

So, the Children's Zoo is a joke (in my opinion). It's like a barnyard....filled with cows, ponies, goats and chickens. Madden did not like it and neither did I. He wanted NO PART in feeding a goat or riding a pony. "I scared" is the response we heard most of the time.
So, we headed to the Reptile House and saw lots of snakes, lizards, alligators, etc. He was slightly amused, but wouldn't get near the glass. He did wave to a lizard and still talks about it daily. It was pretty cute. The lizard was 'kind of' waving back at him!

So far, this zoo experience had been somewhat disappointing, so we headed back over to the NEW Serengeti area. On our way, we saw camel rides, a rhinoceros and some birds.

Once we arrived at the Serengeti exhibit, things started getting more interesting. We saw elephants, zebras, lions, tigers and giraffes. Madden was really wanting to see the giraffe. They are at eye level and as soon as we got near one, he freaked. Oh well, they were pretty to see!

Driving the jeep....

Oh look! Another statue to sit on.....

Honey and Madden - love this picture! Him looking up at her. He adores her!

Before leaving, we promised him a ride on the carousel. He was determined to ride a lion, so we found one and got buckled on. Once the ride started, I realized this one was stationary and did not go up and down. But, he didn't seem to mind.

We were all pooped and ready to go after just a couple of hours. We are supposed to go to Sea World next month and I am not quite sure how we are going to hold up ALL DAY. Should be interesting....

We all went home and took a 3 hour nap!
I'm sure there will be more posts about upcoming zoo trips as we have about 3 months to use up these passes!

Dr. Seuss Day

Dr. Seuss Day - that's a new one for me! We never celebrated that growing up, but apparently it is a BIG deal around these parts.

Madden's school was going to have a parade and they were all encouraged to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character. Hmmm. I don't think we have ever read a Dr. Seuss book to Madden, much less own one. I always thought they were kind of weird.

But, I wanted him to participate in the parade, so here he is! Homemade and everything....

At school, they made hats that were so cute and painted whiskers on the kids....so I took a *few* photos when we got home. You'll notice, the homemade shirt didn't quite make it all day. As soon as we arrived that morning, his friends started picking the stickers off his shirt. Nice. Oh well..

I'm already prepared for NEXT year! I have ordered an official Cat In The Hat t-shirt, so I won't be pulling another late night working on a Dr. Seuss costume again.....another costume, maybe....but we've got Dr. Seuss covered!
