Spring Getaway - San Antonio - Day 2/3 - Mommy/Daddy Time

So, after the Kiddie Park, we dropped Madden off at Lainey & Pops House (my parents) for some time with them and Caroline and the dogs! He had never stayed there by himself, but he did great!

While Madden was getting lots of TLC, Marc and I headed downtown to the Westin on the Riverwalk. We had a corner suite that was fabulous! 2 rooms, a bathroom as large as our bedroom and everything was HEAVENLY!

We rested and showered before meeting our friends for dinner on the river.

We had such a fun night! Good laughs, good people watching and good food! Boy, we made some funny memories that night.....

Saturday morning, we slept in and headed to breakfast at the Guenther House. A MUST if you are ever in San Antonio. We ordered a cinnamon roll for our appetizer, then got waffles, biscuits and gravy and all the fixings! We ate outside on the patio and it was just a lovely morning.

After breakfast, I was ready for a nap! I decided to take FULL advantage of the 'heavenly bed' and the TIME I had to just do nothing....so we just relaxed in the hotel for a few hours.

Then, we headed to Fredricksburg and met up with Marc's brother & sil and their friends. We shopped and shopped and shopped. Good thing we got there at 3 and the stores closed at 5 - otherwise we would've been broke! Great shopping there!

After shopping, we headed to dinner at the Hilltop Cafe. A little restaurant just outside of Fredricksburg.

Ken, Cheryl, Cindy, Shane

It was a neat restaurant. My dinner was OK - but the dessert was wonderful....blackberry pie with ice cream! Yum!

After dinner, we drove back to our hotel in SA. Slept in on Sunday and enjoyed room service for breakfast. Then, we met up with friends for lunch before heading to pick up Madden.

While we were away having fun, here is what Madden was up to!

The Easter bunny came and brought him lots of fun treats - including some cascarone eggs - which he loved! Oh the mess!

They played at the park....

.....and loved on the puppies. Now Madden thinks he needs a dog! Not yet, son.... :)

SO - that completes the 3 series post of our little trip. It was perfect in everyway! Time together as a family, time for mommy/daddy alone, time for Madden with grandparents and time with friends. We made many good memories and look forward to another one in the future!

Spring Getaway - San Antonio - Day 2 - Kiddie Park

On the second day, we headed to a little Kiddie Park in Alamo Heights. Marc's friend told us about it - and to be honest, when we arrived, we weren't quite sure about it. It looked a little shady.....but once we got in there, we learned more about it. It is an old amusement park from 1925. All the rides are vintage and kiddie size.

So, we could our tickets (spent $10) and Madden showed us what he wanted to ride. There are only about 10 rides in the little park - and the first one he wanted was the boats. We were a little hesitant because Madden usually doesn't like 'new' things or 'strangers' - but he LOVED it!

Next up, was the carousel!

Then, the helicoptors! Mommy rode on this one with Madden.

I don't think I had been on a ride in a while - going round and round and up and down made me a little quesy!

Madden LOVES school buses - and this was his first time to ride on one just his size!

Then, the ferris wheel!

We were SHOCKED he rode in this - with other kids - way up high all by himself!

Airplanes!

Love this one!

Trains!

Choo Choo!

Time to go! Giving a "Guns Up" as we leave the park! If you have little ones and are ever in the area looking for some cheap fun - I would highly recommend this little park!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of Day 2... :)

Spring Getaway - San Antonio - Day 1 - SEA WORLD

We decided it was time for Madden to go on his first "vacation getaway" - stay in a hotel, go see some new things and for us to spend time as a family. We started small....with a trip to Sea World. And it was a HUGE success!

We left on a Wednesday afternoon and arrived to our hotel. Madden LOVED it! We were upgraded to a suite, which meant more room for running around. He ran and ran and ran....oh - and he liked to turn the lights on/off. We finally got him settled down around 10pm!

Sea World opened at 10am. It was a BEAUTIFUL day - gorgeous weather and the sun was out!

Shamu was EVERYWHERE, of course.....and Madden had to go touch each and every one.

First Stop: To see the dolphins!

It was feeding time and Madden got to lean on the edge and watch....but as soon as a dolphin came close to him, he freaked out!

Second Stop: Sharks & Fish!

Love this picture with our reflections in the glass!

Madden could've stayed and looked at the fish ALL DAY. We had to peel him away from the glass. Here's a couple of videos.

Third Stop: RENT A STROLLER!

We quickly realized Madden wasn't going to make it all day walking....so we rented a stroller and it was the best $$ we spent all day!

Honey came with us too!

FOURTH STOP: Sea Lion Show

This was the first 'show' Madden has ever seen (other than on TV) and I wasn't sure how long he would last. BUT - he LOVED it! Clapped, screamed, laughed, signed for more, etc. The show was good, but we enjoyed watching him! It was worth every penny we spent to get in just to watch his JOY - and this was just the beginning of the day!

FIFTH STOP: Carousel

We had a little time before the dolphin show to eat lunch and watch a few rides. I love these pictures of Madden and Marc. They are watching a ride that goes up really high and then splashed in the water - Madden thought it was hilarious!

SIXTH STOP: Allure (the new dolphin show)

No pictures here....but some video to come! It was really a neat show - almost like a Cirque show. More acrobatics than dolphin tricks, so that was kind of a bummer, but Madden still enjoyed it!

SEVENTH STOP: Alligators

EIGHTH STOP: Penguins! (Daddy was excited to go and cool off in there for a bit!)

....and we started to get tired......

....but we couldn't leave and miss the Shamu show!

NINTH STOP: Believe (the Shamu show)

I was really surprised at how large the theater was for this one! It was packed and a decent show. They have a new one opening in June. Madden was tired, so Marc took him out to get some ice cream.

LAST STOP: Waterpark!

They opened a really neat preschool waterpark designed with Seseme Street themed things. Madden was tired, but he enjoyed running around for a little bit.

....and attempt at a family picture. Probably should've tried this at the beginning of the day, rather than the end!

Heading home....

....and he's out! His new Shamu animal was the perfect pillow to rest his head!

It was a fantastic day! We were thrilled at how much Madden loved it and he did so well.

Stay tuned for Day 2 of our getaway....
